Macrodiversity Combining of Concatenated Majority-Logic-Like Vector Symbol Codes in Mobile Communication Channels

In this paper, the performance of composite microscopic and macroscopic diversity combining over concatenated double error correcting BCH inner codes and majority-logic-like vector symbol (MLLVS) codes within lognormally shadowed Rayleigh fading channels are analyzed. In the communication model, CPM is used with microscopic combining at the receiving stations before outer code decoding and macrodiversity symbol combining is held. The microdiversity model assumes two combining receivers with selection diversity where the macrodiversity assumes three combining stations participating in symbol combining before outer code decoding. Results indicate that at the 10 and 10 code word error rate, MLLVS codes with as few as 2 passes show an advantage in Eb/No when compared to ReedSolomon codes.
